PerlWebsite DEMO Tipping Competition Administration
SUPPORT FILES
Setting Up Your Tipping Competition:
(1) Start by Adding
the Teams that are playing in your competition. If you are using images
for each team, ensure your teams are called the same as the images you uploaded
to your images directory . Team images must be .gif files. If your
team is called Cowboys, your image for this team will need to be called Cowboys.gif.
Nothing else will work, so get it correct
(2) The next step is to Add
your Competition Rounds. Make sure you Close
Access to the competition while adding Rounds. You do not need to
add all the Rounds up front, but you will need to add atleast one or two Rounds
to get the competition underway. You can add other Rounds at a latter date.
Ensure when you add a Round that you enter all the games for that Round correctly,
including the correct Round Number, date and time tipping closes for that
Round. All Rounds are saved in a master game draw file. Please note that these
Rounds CAN be overwritten, but once a member logs into there account
and views that Round, the information is then transferred to there own personal
file, and this CAN NOT be overwritten.
Get the Information correct before Allowing
Access to your competition and you will have no problems, make mistakes
here and your competition will have problems that can not be fixed
! To check if the Rounds have been entered correctly, view the Saved
Rounds page.
(3) Edit your header.txt and footer.txt files to reflect the look and feel
of your own website. Everything in the header file is printed before the tipping
script. Everything in the footer file is printed after the tipping script.
In other words you are simply splitting the html of a single webpage into
2, the script is placed in between the 2 files. This will allow you to customise
the web page exactly to your liking. Please remember that you should really
use the full path for links and images, ie: ../image.gif should be http://yourdomain.com/images/image.gif.
(4) If you are uncomfortable about step 3, simply use frames to load the
tipping script into your website.
Adding Results for a Round:
(1) The first thing to do is to Close
Access to your Competition to prevent your members from accessing
files while your updating.
(2) Back
Up your data in case you make any mistakes.
(3) Ensure you have the correct data or results for the
games you about to update. Once the competition Round has been updated you
CAN NOT go
back and change the results.
(4) The next step is to Add
the Results to the Round you are updating. Double check you have entered
the data correctly before submitting the results (This
process can not be reversed once entered). When you submit the
results, the script will open each members data file, search for the Round
you are updating, read the members tips, calculate there points, then write
the results to the members Results file. This may take from a few seconds
to minutes, DO NOT re-submit the results
again or do anything else until the script has completed this task. The script
will then update the top tippers files and send a confirmation email to the
admin.
(5) Once the Round has been updated, it is a good idea to
update the Default Login Round
to the next. You can do this at a latter date if you wish, just don't forget
to update the Default Login Round.
(6) The last step is to Allow
Access to your competition again so your tippers can login and check
the results.

Backup / Restoring Your Data:
It is always a good idea to Back
Up your data before entering any results. The Backup Command
simply copies all the data files to the backup directory within your cgi-bin.
Restoring your data simply copies the data back. So you are only able to restore
to the last backup, so backup regularely !
Emailing Members
This form will Send a Email
message in plain text to all your members. To send a test email to the admin
only, simply check the "Send Test Email" check box and hit submit.
When sending to a large membership please be patient, this may take several
minutes to complete.
Inactive Users
The purpose of the Inactive Users
form is to find members who are no longer participating in your competition.
You can select to view tippers who have tipped a certain amount of Rounds
or less. Before deleting a member, check which Rounds they have tipped first,
as they may have joined your competition half way through.
